About St. Augustine Ballet
Saint Augustine Ballet (SAB) is a 501(C)3 non-profit arts organization dedicated to providing dance instruction and creating opportunities for students of dance and giving the community quality ballet performances. Our dancers gain valuable insights into the world of classical ballet by having the unique opportunity to perform side by side with professional guest artists. Saint Augustine Ballet invites all dancers from throughout Northeast Florida to audition for our shows regardless of their dance studio affiliation.
Each year we produce four events which include two full-length ballets, a dance festival, and a student gala performance. Fall is our International Dance Festival and in December we present our signature production and a holiday favorite — The Nutcracker. Our Spring production varies each year. In the past, we have staged Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Wizard of Oz, Peter and the Wolf, Don Quixote Suite and other titles. Our student gala performance is also in the spring and this event is to showcase what our students have learned throughout the year.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from all ticket sales, dance fees, and sponsorships go towards Saint Augustine Ballet’s operating expenses. This includes costumes, set designs, theater rental, advertising and promotion, talent fees, production fees, and liability insurance.
Performances and ballet classes are funded in part from grants:
Sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of arts and Culture,
the FloridaCouncil on Arts and Culture, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Sponsored in part from the St. Johns Cultural Council Tourist Development Council.
History
2009 Saint Augustine Ballet
Luis Abella first launched Saint Augustine Ballet in 2009 in rented studio space and pulled off his first production in under 5 weeks. SAB has always been an establishment to give local NE Florida dancers the opportunity to audition, dance, and receive instruction from professional dancers from all over the globe.
2010 Abella's School of Dance
Mr. Luis saw the need for dedicated studio space and wanted the ability to train dancers year-round...hence Abella's School of Dance was born!
2021 SAB and Abella's Merge
The decision to merge Abella's into SAB came from the wish to create a conservatory program for pre-professional dancers and eventually a full-time company of dancers. Be apart of the arts in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida, join us in dance!
